The Lourensford Harvest Market, a fresh produce and craft market, made its debut at Lourensford Estate in Somerset West, in October 2014. Very successful an soon bursting out of its seems, the Market needed an upgrade. Almost a year later, after serious damage to the shade netting due to a severe storm, (some would say a little divine intervention), it provided the perfect opportunity to not only restore, but significantly improve the market.
A new high level, roof, following the outline of the existing structure, was proposed. This provides a more permanent solution for shade and protection from the elements, while still keeping the outdoor feel of a market. A strip of translucent sheeting in the roof , allows adequate light into the space. The additions of three large, deciduous trees in the middle, gives a soft contrast to the steel and metal sheeting structure.
